A full-time paralegal by day for a small law firm in Muncie, I wear many hats after 5pm: Wife, mother, homeschool educator, bible study facilitator, fitness instructor, government official, volunteer, aerial artist, bartender, disciple of Jesus Christ (all in no particular order). I  graduated from Wes-Del High School in 1997. During high school I also earned my vocational decree in Law Enforcement from the Muncie Area Career Center. After high school, I attended Ball State University and graduated in July, 1999 with my Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology. My husband is water treatment specialist by day and also wears many hats at night (actor, singer, volunteer). Our family has volunteered for many organizations over the past several years including, but not limited to: Muncie Civic Theatre, Anderson Young Ballet Theatre, YWCA, Secret Families of Delaware County, Girl Scouts of America, First Choice for Women, and commUNITY church. My husband began acting shortly after we married in 2000. Our daughter began dancing at the age of 2, in 2007. She now dances with the Joffrey Ballet School in Dallas Texas. In 2010, my husband began a charitable cause entitled The Berry Long Run (now known as ABLR). I have worked alongside him organizing each event since it's commencement. From organizing free community carnivals, t-shirt sales, painting the streets in town, and booking summer concerts, ABLR is always a great challenge. In 2011, as Gaston Town Council President, I entered Gaston in the "Back Home Again in Indiana" contest with the indianapolis Motor Speedway who was celebrating 100 years. As a town with around 300 households, we made it into the top 10 in the State by organizing a local racing museum, a community block party, and painting the IMS logo on the street in the main intersection of town. I take pride in my community and always strive to serve in any capacity the Lord directs to me.

Joanna Saleem

Joanna is sponsored by Jacqueline Burton and Janice Leiphart.

I grew up in Huntington, Indiana and obtained an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Public Affairs from Indiana University.  Growing up,  my family was unable to pay for organized sports, and in high school I was able to join our high school gymnastics team.  I truly believed this opportunity changed my life.  I found something that I was passionate about that challenged me to grow as an athlete and a person.  I coached through-out college to help pay for school and to grow as a coach.  This passion turned into a profession that has taken me all over the country, having lived in several states during my 20’s.  I began coaching collegiate gymnastics shortly after college and have been involved in the development of young women over the past 26 years.  I met my husband Dr. Mark Saleem through the sport at a summer camp in Pennsylvania.  We lived in West Virginia for 6 years while Mark completed his surgical residency and his fellowship and I obtained my Masters Degree in Athletic Coaching Education at West Virginia University. Our only child Brayden, was born in 2009.  Starting a family created a strong desire to return home to Indiana to be closer to family.  We moved to Delaware county in 2011 when Mark was hired by IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital as a general surgeon.  When we first moved to Muncie, I volunteered my time coaching gymnastics at a local club and with the Ball State University team.  I was hired as the head Ball State Gymnastics coach in 2013.  I am fortunate in that one of my passions is also my profession.    I spend lots of time with the team coordinating community engagement.  Each year we task our young women with developing ways to give back to the community.  Things we have done include free clinics for the Burris Kindergartners, work at Second Harvest Food bank, both in the facility and at the local tailgates.  We have worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Muncie during Trunk or Treat events, and have participated in isolation alleviation with the local nursing homes.  We have had so much fun playing bingo with the residence on game night.  We have helped with helped with the Muncie Ironman and the other local races and walks.  They have also done work with Habitat for Humanity.  We have continued to find ways of engagement over the past few years during COVID trying to help where we can while also adhering to the safety requirements of the University and the athletic department.  I truly love my job as it encompasses so much more than just coaching a sport.  When I am not with my team or my family, I spent time at the barn with my horse and work on developing horsemanship and riding skills.

Alexis “Lexi” Starost.

Lexi pledged June 10, 2014 and has sent written notification that she is ready to join the sorority as legacy member and daughter of Deb Starost.

I was born at Ball Memorial Hospital in June of 1996,  raised in Yorktown, Indiana and attended Yorktown High School. Upon my graduation from Yorktown High School I attended Ball State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies, and a Master of Public Administration. After finishing my Master’s I enrolled in University of Dayton School of Law. I am currently a second year law student specializing in criminal law. I plan on coming home to my roots in Delaware County to prosecute once I have finished my degree.  My passion for justice and being a voice for those that have none, particularly  animals, is what inspired me to go to law school. My love for my community and family is what inspires me to return home after law school in order to give of myself to enhance our community in Delaware County. From a young age my mother instilled the value of giving back to my community; that is why I want to be Psi Ote  and why I have chosen a career of public service in Delaware County.
